DESCRIPTION:Our Annual Membership Meeting will take place on Saturday\, January 10\, 2026\, at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Middleton. Doors open at 7am\, complimentary continental breakfast begins at 7:45am. \nThis year\, our keynote speaker will be Dan Egan\, author of The Devil’s Element: Phosphorus and a World out of Balance. Dan will be in conversation with John Reimer\, Assistant Director of the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department\, discussing the never-ending story of the Devil’s Element. Lake City Books will have Dan’s books available for purchase at the event. Dan will sign books in the main lobby upon adjournment of the meeting. \nWe hope to see you on January 10. Members are encouraged to RSVP. If you choose to attend virtually\, we will be e-mailing a link closer to the meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Embark on a tranquil journey through nature with our Beginner Kayak Excursion down the picturesque creek in Pheasant Branch. Perfect for those new to kayaking\, this adventure promises a day of gentle exploration and breathtaking scenery. \nThis quick 20-minute paddle from Marshall Boats to the mouth of the conservancy is a favorite of ours. The Conservancy\, just up the western shore of Lake Mendota\, is a shining example of conservation efforts by three different government entities; the Wisconsin DNR\, the County of Dane\, and the City of Middleton work together to manage this beautiful green space. \nPaddle into the Conservancy a bit\, you’ll find the Marshall Crew waiting to show you channels and a small body of water to explore. Note the upland oak savanna and lowland wet prairies. You’ll want to linger and enjoy every moment. DESCRIPTION:The Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy will host an Eagle Watch event for all ages to get a close up look at the eagles and eaglet in Pheasant Branch Conservancy from 4pm to 6pm on Friday\, May 16. (Rain date: Saturday\, May 24) \nSpotting scopes and binoculars will be available. \nDirections: The eagle watch platform is on the West Trail of the Conservancy at Trail Marker W23. The platform is below and directly east of the intersection of Gaylord Nelson Road and Pheasant Branch Road in Middleton. Follow trail from the parking lot down to the West Trail and turn left towards the platform. Or enter the Conservancy at Whittlesey Road and follow the path to the platform.  \nParking is limited and the City of Middleton asks that visitors do not park on Pheasant Branch Road. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or new to the world of birdwatching\, this auditory adventure will deepen your appreciation for the avian wonders that surround us. \nTimothy Hansel is the education coordinator for the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy\, an avid birder\, and photographer. He is also a Wisconsin Master Naturalist and serves as a Wisconsin Master Naturalist instructor for The Prairie Enthusiasts.
