The fringed acorns are the surest identifier; younger branches can appear "corky", as above, but not always; leaf shape is variable, but lobes are always rounded, not pointed. To my knowledge, this is the only member of the white oak group in the county portion of the conservancy, so if you see an oak with round lobed leaves, then it's probably a bur oak.
