In September of 2023, Friends gathered at Shannon Prairie in Pheasant Branch Conservancy to celebrate the prairie's 20th anniversary.  Dorothy Shannon, a long time resident of the City of Middleton and a founding member of the Middleton Conservation Committee and the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy was instrumental in the early days of conserving this resource for future generations.  The video below, produced by Dale Klubertanz and Gary Sater,  tells a story of Friends' history.

We hear the term “watershed” a lot in reference to water resources, but what does that term really mean? Focusing on Middleton’s beloved Pheasant Branch Creek, we’ll explore how water moves from the edges of the watershed all the way to Lake Mendota. We’ll also take a look at the famous (or infamous) rain event and flood of August 2018 to get a glimpse of how climate change is already impacting Middleton. The featured speaker is Jim Bachhuber, a retired stormwater consultant who is an occasional instructor at UW-Madison. Jim also serves on the City of Middleton’s Water Resources Commission and has served on the Board of the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy.
Conservancy Day Lecture: Pheasant Branch Creek — Where Does All this Water Come From?
In 2021, the Friends of Pheasant Branch conducted its first frog & toad survey among a small group of Restoration and Management Committee staff as a trial run. This year, we are continuing the survey and are broadening participation to the general public! This is the first introductory meeting for those interested in partaking in the survey project. This video includes a presentation by Andrew Badje, Conservation Biologist with the Wisconsin DNR who shares some information about survey activities in our state. The video also goes over details for our specific survey from survey coordinator Chris Kubiak who helped organize and conduct last year's program. Our 2022 Frog & Toad Survey will run from approximately April 1st to August 1st, 2022, with an introduction session provided at the start of the season. Frog & toad surveys help us monitor the populations that use the conservancy as habitat and over time will help us understand how our restoration efforts and other changes to the land affect these populations. This is particularly important as the conservancy expands north, bringing water quality improvements with reductions in agricultural impact. Additionally, the survey provides a wonderful opportunity to experience the conservancy in a new way under the night sky.

This webinar was held on Thursday Jan 20 and talks about wolf biology and conservation efforts in the state as it pertains to the ongoing political controversy surrounding the state's wolf hunt.
