The Friends wish to congratulate a dedicated volunteer with our 25th Anniversary Celebration planning committee for receiving a distinguished award. Middleton High School (MHS) junior, Daphne Wu, is one of two honorees of the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Wisconsin. This award is given to 102 youth volunteers each year and is America’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service.
Daphne earned this award for her leadership in addressing environmental issues in our community. In 2018, Wu started the Green Team, an environmental club at MHS with 50+ members, to rise awareness of environmental issues and solutions. Since 2019, she has been working on a resolution for 100% renewable energy use in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. The school board will be voting on adoption of the resolution in March. Daphne is the founder of the Dane County Youth Environmental Committee, connecting youth leaders across the county. She represents MHS on the City of Middleton Sustainability Committee and volunteers at the City’s Recycling Center.
Daphne is truly an amazing voice for the environment and deserving of this national award!
Congratulations Daphne!
