Report a Pigweed

The UW Extension Wisconsin First Detector Network (WIFDN) has great information on invasive species found in the state. Get involved with this quick citizen science project regarding Pigweed. Report a Pigweed

Pigweeds, in the genus Amaranthus, are a group of plants that include common agricultural weeds. WIFDN is working with the new Report a Pigweed program to gather reports of two types of pigweed in Wisconsin: waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus) and Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri).

These two pigweeds have been known to develop resistance to herbicides, making them costly weeds to control in an agricultural setting. And while pigweed are most often addressed in the context of agriculture, they can also be found in gardens, on roadsides, and in other locations.

What can you do? Go to the Report a Pigweed page and learn about Palmer amaranth and waterhemp. Then, if you find either of these pigweeds near you, please send in a report! You can report via the GLEDN app or by following the instructions on the webpage to send an email.
