The Clean Lakes Alliance puts out a State of the Lakes report each year. This is a video snapshop of that report. Many improvements in the management of soil and phosphorus (the biggest culprit of water quality problems) have lead to achievements in keeping phosphorus out of our lakes. Just one pound of phosphorus can generate 500 pounds of algae and cyanobacteria in our waters. Our community helped keep 19,500 pounds of phosphorus out of our lakes in 2019, which could have produced 9,750,000 pounds of algae and cyanobacteria. But there is still much work to be done.
