On a very wet, windy and chilly Sunday (4/30/23) six hearty youth and their advisor were determined to come out to Pheasant Branch Conservancy and team with Gary Sater, FOPBC Board member and Co-chair of Restoration and Management, in overseeding the Eastern Prairie. This area of PBC had undergone a prescribed burn earlier in the spring and Rob Schubert, our Land Manager had procured a desired mix of native seeds for this project. The seed had been mixed with sawdust for spreading and all was ready, except the high temperature for the day was predicted to be maybe 40 F and the winds were gusting upwards of 40 mph with intermittent rain and sleet. MOUSY was given an opportunity to cancel, however, the “hearty six” and their advisor were thumbs up for this workday experience. So, Gary met them at the work trailer and off they went to make three passes at the prairie with the seed. They managed to complete the overseeding of this area from the trail to the power lines. Rob came out later and completed the overseeding into the wetlands south of the power lines. This should eventually result in a more diverse mix of native plant species for the Eastern prairie of PBC. Thank you MOUSY for the third consecutive year of coming out for a workday experience. You rock!
