On Wednesday, November 4th, Deb Weitzel, Board member and Anne Boucher, Education Coordinator stopped by the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District Services Center to receive a 2020 Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) Business Honor Roll award. We are very appreciative and thank the District for this honor. The Friends’ education program is among the five 2020 recipients that will be recognized at the Board of Education virtual meeting on Monday, November 16. The award is for the 20+ year partnership the Friends have had with the school district.

The education program has brought high school students to the Conservancy to do restoration work, brings hundreds of elementary aged students each year to the Conservancy for outdoor lessons based on their science curriculum, supports the 6th graders at Kromrey Middle School in their efforts to learn about and restore the rain gardens at the school, written and supplied an outdoor-based environmental education curriculum for the 4K program, sponsors an annual photo contest at MHS whose winners are published in our annual calendar, established a citizen science initiative with CSCS students for studying bird-window collisions at Kromrey, and created intergenerational art programs with area seniors and students at Northside and Sauk Trail elementary schools among its many activities with the district.
