MOUSY Youth Group Works to Overseed the East Prairie

On May 1st the MOUSY (Madison’s Only United Synagogue Youth) from the Beth Israel Center came out to Pheasant Branch Conservancy to help in overseeding the east prairie below Frederick’s Hill. This area was the recent target of a prescribed burn under the direction of our Conservancy Land Manager, Rob Schubert. Restoration and Management Committee (R&M) Co-chair and Board Member, Gary Sater, along with R&M Committee and Board member, Carl Sinderbrand collaborated with Deborah Hoffman, Program and Youth Leader for the Beth Israel Center to make this youth workday possible. Rob Schubert provided the little bluestem and milkweed seeds to spread and the MOUSY youth group provided the hand-casting work. Involving youth in our restoration and management activities is key to caring for our natural lands not only today, but far into the future. This is the second consecutive year that MOUSY and R&M from the FOPBC have collaborated in a youth workday. Last year they participated in removing invasive vegetation along the fence line bordering Pheasant Branch Road in the new addition. Not only were they hard-working, but they were also delightful to work with. Thanks to Deborah Hoffman for helping to make this happen. We are grateful for their assistance in caring for PBC.
