On Sunday, April 10th, Quercus Land Stewardship Services under the direction of Rob Schubert, our Conservancy Land Manager, successfully completed a prescribed burn of Frederick’s Hill and the surrounding Eastern prairie. Given the cool and damp weather over the past several days it was fortunate to have these favorable conditions to execute the burn. Prescribed burns are an important part of our land management strategies and serve to promote flora and fauna diversity over time and returning PBC to its historic landscape heterogeneity. It is but a brief inconvenience for a long-lasting benefit. If you’ve noticed, the Western prairie has already begun to “green up” after having been burned only 21 days ago. The accompanying drone images, provided by Gary Sater (R&M Committee Co-chair and Board Member) are used in collaboration with Rob Schubert to document and assess the success of our prescribed burns.
