On 3/21/23 Quercus Land Stewardship Services was contracted by the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy to conduct a prescribed burn in several areas of the PBC. Under the direction of our Conservancy Land Manager, Rob Schubert, the Propagation Garden, the Hilltop (inside the circular trail), Shannon Prairie and the SE Wetlands portions of PBC bordering the City portions of PBC were burned. It was a very successful burn as the drone photography documented with pre- and post-burn images. Periodic prescribed burning remains one of our most successful and important management techniques for natural prairie, wetlands and oak savanna restoration and management. This burn was particularly successful with adequate fuel and nearly ideal humidity and wind conditions. Additionally, it is always interesting to see how quickly new growth begins to occur and what species of plants are given an advantage in growth following the burns. With springtime warmth and moisture the new growth should be rapid in the coming days and weeks.
