On March 11th, 2023, the third 40 acre quadrant of the 160 acre addition on the north side of Pheasant Branch Conservancy was seeded by Dane County Parks. Concerned about disappearing snow and a desire to seed this quadrant with snow on the ground, DCPs decided to disperse the Platinum Prairie seed mix once again. If you recall, having snow still on the ground assists in having a visual guide for distribution of the seed and the cold/wet freezing and thawing of snow covered ground (stratification) assists in seed germination over time. Again, thank you to all who contributed small or large in this “Seed the Need” Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy campaign. You helped immensely to make this restoration of farmland into natural lands and a healthy watershed for Lake Mendota and the entire Yahara Chain of Lakes. We have one more year to go before the 4th and final 40 acre quadrant is planted and our celebration with Clean Lakes Alliance and Dane County Parks can unfold. Please consider joining us next year in this remarkable achievement.
