Dane County Parks has begun work on the Frederick’s Hill hiking trail realignment, which aims to address persistent erosion issues, safeguard sensitive cultural and ecological resources, and support the long-term sustainability of the trail system.
The realignment will redirect portions of the trail away from erosion-prone slopes and culturally significant sites. This initiative is designed to enhance user experience, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements, and ensure continued resilience and accessibility of the trail network.
Work will occur in multiple phases, beginning with the mowing of new trail corridors and the posted closure of designated sections of the existing trail. Subsequent phases will involve the formal decommissioning of closed segments and restoration to prairie habitat.
Watch for signage regarding intermittent trail closures—we appreciate your patience.
