On March 17th, a Ceremonial Seeding Celebration took place in the SE 40-acre quadrant of the new addition to Pheasant Branch Conservancy. Dane County Executive Joe Parisi was joined by Dane County Parks staff, members of The Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy and staff of The Clean Lakes Alliance, as well as several generous donors and other interested stakeholders, to commemorate the successful first-year Seed the Need fundraising campaign and the actual seeding of this first of four 40-acre quadrants. The primary seeding of this quadrant, including 175 species of prairie and wetland plants, was accomplished on March 3rd due to the final arrival of all of the seed and very favorable weather conditions. Several individuals present at this ceremonial event also took part in the further hand-casting of additional seeds on this parcel. This event also serves to “kick off” our second year of Seed the Need fundraising for the next seeding event of the SW quadrant in 2022. We are excited to see this successful partnership succeed once again in the upcoming year to reach the mid-point of transforming this land into natural prairie and wetlands. Please consider contributing what you can to the second year of the Seed the Need campaign.
