Improved watershed management from Pheasant Branch Conservancy into Lake Mendota and the entire Yahara River Watershed received a much needed boost from the completion of the Acker parcel water management landscaping in early November. These images display the retention pond and berm on the south side of Balzer Rd., the wetland waterway leading south to a midway berm and finally, the third berm bordering the existing northern edge of Pheasant Branch Conservancy. The pond and water flow managed berms throughout this intermittent stream, will allow runoff water from miles around PBC to be significantly cleaned before merging with the Fredericks Springs and Pheasant Branch Stream confluence and then Lake Mendota and the entire Yahara River Watershed. Thanks to Dane County for their purchasing of this land and their foresight and commitment to protecting these important watershed lands. Also, thanks to the Clean Lakes Alliance and the Friends of Pheasant Branch Conservancy in their partnership with Dane County, to seed and restore this valuable prairie and wetland addition to Pheasant Branch Conservancy. Please consider donating to the Seed The Need campaign over the next four years as each of four forty acre parcels are seeded and restored to beautiful natural lands. Also, please consider viewing the Seed The Need informational video (on our website and Facebook) for more information about this restoration campaign within the expanded PBC.
