Listening Trail | The Missing Mounds

Join Ho-Chunk storyteller Andi Cloud on the Listening Trail as she reflects on the sacred effigy mounds created by her ancestors in Pheasant Branch.

Wisconsin once had 15,000 to 20,000 effigy mounds. Only 4,000 mounds remain today. In the Madison area, 80% of 1,500 have been destroyed, including here in Pheasant Branch Conservancy. Andi Cloud is a storyteller from the Ho-Chunk nation. Andi shares the significance of the region’s effigy mounds to the Ho-Chunk, the descendants of the mounds’ creators.
