Bald Eagle Observation Deck

The Eagle Observation Deck was built to facilitate responsible viewing of an eagle nest established in 2019. However, a June 2025 storm downed the tree and nest utilized by our resident eagle pair. The juvenile had already fledged and the breeding pair have constructed a new nest to the north, closer to Pheasant Branch Hill. The new nest site can be observed from the trail up Pheasant Branch Hill using binoculars or a scope, but it is not possible to construct a new observation platform without distubing the eagles, and attempting to view the nest from off-trail is both disruptive and illegal. Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
