Listing Trail | Effigy Mounds

At this Listening Trail stop, archaeologist Amy Rosebough shares the history of Pheasant Branch's lost effigy mounds and native cultural heritage.

Wisconsin once had 15,000 to 20,000 effigy mounds. Only 4,000 mounds remain today. In the Madison area, 80% of 1,500 have been destroyed, including here in Pheasant Branch Conservancy. Amy Rosebough, an archaeologist with the Wisconsin Historical Society, gives us more context about the scale of the loss of this cultural heritage.
